DATE: December 7th, 2008
START TIME: 6pm Eastern / 2300z
WHERE: KATL / Atlanta ARTCC
What is "Atlanta Live"?
Atlanta Live is an event that implements a real flight schedule for all flights in and out of the Atlanta area with real world ATC staffing and techniques. This includes some of the scheduled general aviation and executive transport flights. It doesn't get any better than this as ZTL controllers push the Atlanta airspace to the max, pumping traffic in and out as fast as they can!
Don't miss out on the last Atlanta Live before the new year.

Brian Gefrich and Joel DeYoung are pleased to announced that after a long wait, a public beta of SquawkBox 4 is now available to try on the VATSIM network. This version of SquawkBox works with Flight Simulator 2002, 2004 and FSX. It has been tested on Windows XP and Vista. The following issues are already known to occur:
- Transponder module may toggle to "ACTIVE" when connecting to a server, regardless of current setting. You may still set the transponder to STANDBY mode after the connection is made.
- Switching your sound device in the settings while receiving a voice transmission can cause crashes.

Taking R&D from Virtual to Reality
Posted Friday, August 22, 2008 6:37 EST
Can a fun, virtual air traffic simulation game translate into “tried and true” research and development? CAASD is exploring the possibilities through a partnership with the Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network (VATSIM), a global aviation community on the Internet avid about flight simulation. VATSIM is comprised of over 100,000 registered users consisting of pilots, air traffic controllers, and new users interested in learning about online flight simulation and air traffic control. The network offers CAASD an opportunity for concept exploration and validation within the research and development (R&D) community that has yet to be explored. Says Principal Software Systems Engineer Frank Sogandares, “We hope to conduct virtual future National Airspace System (NAS)-level and global simulations with the group. These simulations can offer better insights into how aviation systems behave as operational changes are introduced.”
